How to divert egrets/herons from koi ponds to keep them from eating koi?

Is there something I can use to scare them away without resorting to a net to cover pond

   listen bro i got this problem too. put up a little string like a trip wire would be. around where the birds have access. then they will be scared to cross it cuz they wanna be able to get away quick if anything happens cuz they are paranoid about eating, like a lot of animals are

   We have a big problem with that here. The only thing that discourages them is to dig the pond so deep it covers them, they don't like to stand in water above their heads. Netting is really the best way because lots of other animals(foxes, raccoons, snakes, cats, etc…) also eat koi.

   Wow! What a problem!

   I live in a semi-desert part of Texas, and it blows my mind that people actually have problems with animals we never get to see around here. We'll see an odd one at a playa lake now and then, but nothing that could ever create a problem.

   You're making me jealous! Hope you find a solution.
